Een unieke start: de escaperoom in het kasteel van Rochefort

Ons avontuur begon bij Château Comtal de Rochefort, waar we deelnamen aan de escaperoom die zich afspeelt binnen de historische muren van het kasteel.

De opdrachten waren zeker niet eenvoudig, maar precies dat maakte het zo leuk. In plaats van op de klassieke manier informatie te krijgen, ontdekt u spelenderwijs de rijke geschiedenis van het kasteel en de regio. Een originele ervaring die geschiedenis op een totaal andere manier tot leven brengt.

Na de escaperoom volgde een rondleiding. De verhalen over het verleden van Rochefort en zijn strategische ligging maakten veel indruk. Een leuke extra: deze rondleiding kost slechts vijf euro per persoon. Voor die prijs krijg je verrassend veel waar voor je geld. Een absolute aanrader voor iedereen die de Ardennen bezoekt.

Overnachten in charme en geschiedenis

Na een dag vol ontdekkingen trokken we naar ons hotel, La Malle Poste.

Dit gezellige en karaktervolle hotel ligt op wandelafstand van het centrum en ademt geschiedenis uit. Wat meteen opvalt, is de prachtige tuin en het mooie uitzicht op de kerk van Rochefort. Het historische gebouw zorgt voor een unieke sfeer waarin u volledig tot rust komt.

Wie houdt van authentieke hotels met charme en karakter, zal zich hier onmiddellijk thuis voelen.

Een culinair hoogtepunt bij Ardelle

's Avonds stond een diner gepland bij Ardelle en dat bleek zonder twijfel één van de hoogtepunten van het weekend te worden.

Vanaf het eerste moment voelde de ontvangst warm en persoonlijk aan. Met slechts zes tafeltjes creëert het restaurant een intieme sfeer waarin je je meteen welkom voelt.

Wij kozen voor het all in viergangenmenu met aangepaste wijnen, al bestaat er ook een alcoholvrij arrangement met perfect afgestemde dranken. Elk gerecht was verrassend, verfijnd en tot in de puntjes afgewerkt.

Een culinaire ervaring die nog lang zal nazinderen en die van onze avond in Rochefort een perfecte afsluiter maakte.

Op ontdekking in de Grotten van Han en het Wildpark

Na een heerlijke nachtrust stond er opnieuw een dag vol avontuur op het programma. We trokken naar de beroemde Grotten van Han, één van de mooiste grotten van Europa.

De indrukwekkende ondergrondse zalen, spectaculaire rotsformaties en gigantische ruimtes maken deze plek werkelijk uniek. Zelfs foto's kunnen moeilijk weergeven hoe indrukwekkend deze natuurpracht in werkelijkheid is.

Aansluitend maakten we de safaritocht door het Wildpark van Han. Tijdens deze tocht krijg je de kans om verschillende Europese diersoorten in hun natuurlijke omgeving te bewonderen, waaronder herten, wilde zwijnen, wolven en bizons.

Voor gezinnen, natuurliefhebbers en fotografen is dit zonder twijfel een absolute aanrader.

Wat dit weekend zo bijzonder maakte, was de perfecte combinatie van geschiedenis, gastronomie en natuur. Van een uitdagende escaperoom in een middeleeuws kasteel tot een gastronomisch diner en een safari tussen wilde dieren: Rochefort heeft verrassend veel te bieden.

A Unique Start: The Escape Room at Rochefort Castle

Our adventure started at the Château Comtal de Rochefort, where we took part in an escape room experience set within the historic walls of the castle.

The challenges were certainly not easy, but that was exactly what made it so enjoyable. Instead of discovering the history in a traditional way, you learn about the rich heritage of the castle and the surrounding region through an interactive and playful experience. It is a unique concept that truly brings history to life.

After completing the escape room, we joined a guided tour of the castle. The stories about Rochefort's past and its strategic importance throughout history were fascinating. An additional bonus: the guided tour costs only five euros per person. For that price, you get incredible value for money. It is an absolute must-do for anyone visiting the Ardennes.

Staying in Charm and History

After a day full of discoveries, we headed to our hotel, La Malle Poste.

This cosy and characterful hotel is located within walking distance of the town centre and is full of history and charm. One of the first things you notice is the beautiful garden and the lovely view overlooking the church of Rochefort. The historic building creates a unique atmosphere where you can completely unwind.

Anyone who appreciates authentic hotels with character will immediately feel at home here.

A Culinary Highlight at Ardelle

In the evening, we enjoyed dinner at Ardelle, which turned out to be one of the highlights of the entire weekend.

From the very first moment, the welcome felt warm and personal. With only six tables, the restaurant offers an intimate atmosphere where guests instantly feel at ease.

We opted for the all-inclusive four-course menu with carefully selected wine pairings, although a non-alcoholic pairing option is also available with perfectly matched drinks. Every dish was surprising, refined and beautifully presented.

It was a culinary experience that will stay with us for a long time and the perfect way to end our evening in Rochefort.

Exploring the Caves of Han and the Wildlife Park

After a wonderful night's sleep, another day of adventure awaited us. We headed to the famous Caves of Han, widely considered one of the most beautiful cave systems in Europe.

The impressive underground halls, spectacular rock formations and enormous chambers make this place truly unique. Even photographs struggle to capture just how breathtaking this natural wonder really is.

Afterwards, we joined the safari tour through the Han Wildlife Park. During the tour, visitors have the opportunity to observe various European animal species in their natural habitat, including deer, wild boar, wolves and bison.

For families, nature lovers and photographers, this is without question an experience not to be missed.

What made this weekend so special was the perfect combination of history, gastronomy and nature. From a challenging escape room in a medieval castle to a fine dining experience and a safari among wild animals, Rochefort offers far more than many people expect.
